Things are now not what we have been sold. We were told to be good boys and girls, to go to school, get good grades and go to college. And if we did those things we would get a good job, have money in our retirement accounts and it would all be okay. You know…
The kind of plan where you work 40 hours a week and you’ll live “happily” ever after. But that’s not reality.
According to research. The majority of folks only have three to ten thousand dollars to their name when they retire. Statistics show most people don’t even have a thousand dollars in their bank account. And people who are going to college today are racking up record debt. Sixty, seventy, eighty, a hundred thousand dollars or more in debt. And when they graduate… they get a job that keeps them stuck and can barely pay the interest down on that debt. That’s if they get a job at all!
I was somebody who did okay in high school and I went on to college but never thought it was for me. So I limped through it like most people limp through life. And ever since I got out of college I’ve been self employed. I’ve never had a 9-5 job and never will. WHY?
Because I understand the value of time more than most
My father passed away when I was 3 years old and through most of my young adult life I felt sort of empty and lost. But that also molded me into who I am today. Never having that father figure to help guide me forced me to figure things out on my own. It contributed to me being self sufficient and…
When my kids were born…that entrepreneurial spirit was cemented into my existence. I wanted to give my children the father I never had. I wanted to give them MY TIME.
That’s a HUGE part of my why.
It’s about spending as much time as I want with them and whenever I want. I’ll never miss a dance recital, a basketball practice or anything for that matter. I wanted to own my own time and decided I will never trade time for money. So I learned how to become an entrepreneur.
I discovered internet marketing and real estate investing. And over the course of the last decade or so, I’ve gone from completely broke and bankrupt to living the dream life.
Living a life by design
I’ve been able to travel the country teaching others how they can do the same. I take afternoons and sometimes days off during the week to do things I’m passionate about like running and hiking. I’ve been able to meet the woman of my dreams, drive the cars I want to drive and more. It’s not because I’m any smarter than you or because I’m any smarter than anybody else. I’m not.
And none of that matters anyway – not in today’s economy; it doesn’t.
There are more Wi-Fi and internet millionaires popping up right now than ever. They are working in coffee shops, in shorts and flip-flops and tank tops. It’s an underground world of people who are leveraging their laptops and smartphones, not just to scroll Facebook with…but to make money.
So here’s my question.
Would you like to do the same thing? Would you actually like to make money with your laptop or phone? Or do you want to sit around and waste time scrolling on Facebook looking at cat pictures?
Are you one of those people that wants to figure out how to use your laptop and smart phone to break free so you can make a few extra hundred dollars a month, a few extra thousands dollars part time, or a even a full time income making tens of thousands of dollars? If so, then I applaud and support you.
I’ve built a multi six figure a year business around the lifestyle I want to live, instead of building my lifestyle around my business.
The idea of the “Lifestyle Entrepreneur”, was popularized by Tim Ferris in his book the Four Hour Work Week. It’s the type of entrepreneur I think most of us would love to be.
Traditional entrepreneurship spends a lot of time on the a-z of running a business, the nuts and bolts of it all. In fact the core focus is building the business itself. This is asking a lot and often times you end up sacrificing the reason why you wanted to become an entrepreneur and business owner in the first place.
A lifestyle Entrepreneur starts with a much simpler concept and one that requires a different approach.
1. Freedom Of Location.
The ability to work where you want and when you want.
2. Low Fixed Costs.
The ability to start, grow, and scale your business with low overhead.
3. The flexibility of Time.
The ability to manage the business with as little time invested as needed.
It’s about being able to do what you want, when you want and to be able to do those things with the people you love and care about the most.
